The First Post

Hi, my name is Randy Pingrey, and this is my new blog.  Words tend to fail me, so here is a quote by the great Samuel Beckett to get things started:

“‘The more Joyce knew the more he could.  He’s tending toward omniscience and omnipotence as an artist.  I’m working with impotence, ignorance.  I don’t think, impotence has been exploited in the past.  There seems to be a kind of esthetic [sic] axiom that expression is achievement – must be an achievement.  My little exploration of being that has always been set aside by artists as something unusable – as something by definition incompatible with art.” Beckett to Israel Shenker (5 May 1956)

This little quote has proven to be the begining of a long process for me.  I hope you enjoy it!

I’m interested in using this blog as an opportunity to further refine my ideas as they are subjected to scrutiny.  Hopefully, I’ll also be posting recordings of my work in music, both as a trombonist/improvisor and as a composer, but I’ll have to figure out how first.
